The BBFC (The British Board of Film Classification) help to protect vulnerable views and society from the effects of the viewing potentially harmful unsuitable content while respecting adult freedom of choice.
The BBFC’s role - Their role is to protect the public from anything offensive or could cause any harm. The BBFC’s role in the film industry is important as they provide public information to help viewers decide if the films suitable for them or not so they don’t make the wrong decision which will corrupt or harm anyone.
Things that get censored:
-Violence
-corrupt the young
-controversy and the press
-sex and nudity
-sexual violence
-social class
-bad language
-race
-religion
-true events
-shock
Examples of films that have been censored leading them to ban or get cut:
2008-present
|
Banned
due to containing a significant amount of eroticized sexual violence, and for
scenes of intercourse between characters intended to be brother and sister.
|
1990–2004
|
Banned
due to graphic violence, which is particularly focused against women; passed
uncut in 2004
|
2009–present
|
Banned
due to a high level of sexual torture
|
Cut the scene – when a film is edited or has scenes taken out of it to make it appropriate for viewing
Banned -when a film is taken away from cinema viewing completely due to indecent, harmful or offensive material.
In conclusion I have learnt that some things are too sensitive to be available to views for example going against religious concept or changing around a biography of a true story could effect and harm many people.
Again, some good ideas to demonstrate your understanding of the BBFC and their role in the film industry. Well presented and your personal opinion on the topic is well justified.

-is going through the BBFC a legal requirement for all films? Mention this in your introduction and state why
-try and provide an example for each censorship reason
-more thriller specific information. What other thrillers have been banned and for what types of reasons.
-conclude with more depth. What do you need to consider in your own thriller?
