Research: How do thriller movies make the audience feel?

Audience response:
Thriller movies give the audience thrills that they wouldn’t experience personally. In addition most people love to have the suspense of what’s going to happen next which they try to work out during the movie like solving a puzzle. Also, directors of thrillers want to keep the audient alert and on the edge of their seat at all times.

However, I believe suspense is the most common reason why people enjoy watching thrillers. For example, personally I hate thrillers I would look away however as the paste of the music starts to change I start to wonder what’s happening so I can’t stand the suspense and look. Furthermore its adrenaline rushing and fast paced which provides the audience with a sudden rush of emotions.
what are genres and why are they important?A genre is the type of category a film falls into depending on its characteristics. It’s important to know this because it’s a way to identify if you’re going to enjoy the movie before watching it

Thriller genre definition:

A thriller genre is a film that creates suspense and provides the audience with fearful excitement keeping them on the edge of their seat. Most people compare it to horror.

The Dark Knight

The dark knight is a 2008 superhero film based on the fictional DC Comics character (Batman). The film is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale as Batman which provides Gotham city with protection by fighting against crime. However a villain comes along (Joker) and tries to take over the city ‘let the clown out the box’ and therefore the Batman provides justice.

Final Destination

Final Destination is about a bunch of students who go on a trip together, however one of them is grifted and can see the future, and therefore they escape death. This concludes in death going after them all untill the person that was supposed to die in the first place dies.
A common aspect about thrillers: A thing that most thrillers have in common is that they are mostly all set in dark environments with low light and involves a lot of death. Also the paste of the music changes from slow pastes to fast then a sudden loud noise to make the audience jump out of their seat.

What's a sub-genre?

A sub- genre is a category that goes into a genre. For example: Sci- fi, religious , crime and action thrillersExamples:

Fast & Furious 6
Fast & Furious 6 is an action thriller that involves a group of street racers from all around the world creating a ‘ team ‘ which they use to do many things. Dominic Toretto and Brian ressemble their crew which they lead across 12 countries in order to find Letty.

Looper
Looper is an example of an Sci-Fi thriller which is about a hired hit man (Joe). When the government or anyone wants to get rid of someone they send them back 30 years into the past where the hit man waits and shoots them and gets money in return. However, one day Joe himself gets sent back and that’s where it all starts to get a bit complicated

  1. Sezer, you discuss audience responses to thrillers well. You include examples of conventional thrillers and sub-genres that illustrates your understanding. It is also good that you provide an insight into the thrillers to show how the narrative differs in order to fit into a different category.

    To improve;
-consider the order and presentation of your work as this could be clearer
-what are some of the common conevntions of thrillers?
-what are some of the conevntional themes in thrillers?
-conclude your work, what have you learnt and how will you apply this to your planning?
